Info Session Agenda

  • Education Program

Discover Term uses industry best practices in instructional design and project based learning to create epic learning adventures that our students write home about. Students thrive when they’re active in their learning, which is why each of our projects actively engages out student’s mind and body, leveraging this momentum to grow their skills in math, written communication, presentation, leadership, and practical science understanding and application.

  • Ski / Surf Program

Our students learn the mental frameworks, physical techniques, and mindset for what it takes to become masterful at something, and each day they practice what they learn on the mountain or in the surf. At this Info Session, we’ll talk about how we prepare our students to learn about mastery and the impact attending a Discover Term program has on their life.

  • Discover Term Life

Discover Term students live in a tight-knit community of adventurers who thrive together with shared accountability and responsibility. Our programs provide a safe, distraction-free, and open environment where students live in the pristine mountains or jungle where they’re able to fully discover their potential.

The Adventures Speak for Themself

Who doesn’t want to trade boring lectures and technology addiction for daily ski & surf sessions, alpine & jungle adventures, project deep-dives into topics like avalanches, turtle migration, wilderness survival and eco-tourism, all while living in a thriving community of young-adults pursuing their potential.

“For 6-8th graders, so much of their lives are ruled by awkward transitions, body changes, emotional roller coaters, digging deep within to discover themselves, intense focus on their peers, and of course the undying rebellious spirit! It is at this time it seems fitting for this age group to have the opportunity to explore the world, without the constant presence of their parents and technology. Powder term was this safe yet open window into the world. This was a place for Arjavi to be the person she wants to be, not the one people who have known her for many years have labelled her as. This was a place for her to dig deep within, step up and take on responsibility for herself, her actions, her moods, her effort or lack of it, her life! I think this is an experience which is perfect for 6-8th graders.”

—Parul T. (mother of a Powder Term student)

“It was an amazingly positive experience for us. It delivered on so many fronts. Bella’s skiing has improved massively. Making so many friends has enriched her life. And she has grown more confident.”

—David O. (father of a Powder Term student)

“I would 100% recommend Powder Term to any family with middle schoolers looking for wholistic development! Both of my children attended the first Powder Term and it was a powerful experience. In a world where teenagers are often consumed with their phones and social media, my children spent 5 weeks without phones, with people, and in nature! This is incredibly valuable for us because it reinforced in our children that they can have a blast with real people and without losing themselves in phones.
Our children spent these 5 weeks building real relationships. They told us how living and working with people from varied backgrounds naturally led to deep conversations about their thoughts, their faith, and their beliefs. My daughter said she felt so much more settled with who she is because she had the opportunity to genuinely express it to her peers at Powder Term.

The skiing itself was an amazing experience for them. Developing a physical skill, growing in strength and stamina, and learning in the outdoors led to focusing on parts of their growth that are often overlooked in a school setting.

The education component challenged them to work together and think deeper. My son came back with insights from having read The Alchemist that brought out the thoughtful, deeper side of him. They both came back with much more appreciation for using their time well.

The lessons from Powder Term have been more like the oil at the base of a lantern - they may be unseen but they have fueled our children’s growth, they have contributed to them being confident in who they are, they have reframed their view of themselves in many ways that are not always obvious but have been so very valuable to all of us. Thank you to the team for the utter love and support they gave to our children!”

Parent Testimonials

“Cameron went to PT wanting more. I’m not sure she knew what that meant but every bit of her experience there was transformative. From community living to challenging herself both academically and physically, she will carry these as “core memories” throughout the rest of her life. It was powerful. She tasted freedom and growth. We couldn’t have been more thrilled with the outcome but in all honesty, we weren’t surprised. You all are top notch!!"

—Natalie H. (mother of a Powder Term student)

"It’s the greatest gift you can give your child. No phones. Lasting friendships. And the lifelong gift of skiing.”
